Car inspection in Albania (kolaudimi): booking and dates
Updated: 8 October 2026
Kolaudimi (the vehicle’s roadworthiness inspection) is done at DPSHTRR (the General Directorate of Road Transport Services) centres and must be booked in advance. It’s easy to forget, because it doesn’t come round every month.
How to book
- Log in to e-Albania (the government services portal) with your account.
- Look for the service for booking a vehicle inspection.
- Choose the centre, date and time that suit you.
- Keep the booking confirmation and write the date down somewhere you’ll see it.
What to bring with you
- Your identity document.
- The vehicle’s registration certificate.
- A valid compulsory insurance policy (TPL, third-party liability insurance).
The exact list of documents may change. Check it in the e-Albania service or with DPSHTRR before you go.
The inspection and the annual tax
The annual vehicle circulation tax is usually paid at the time of the technical inspection, and is valid until the same date the following year. So when your inspection is coming up, budget for the tax as well. More in the guide to the annual car tax.
How often it’s done
How often a vehicle needs inspecting depends on its type and age, and the rules have changed several times in recent years. The date of the next inspection is written on the document from your last one. If you don’t have it, you can find it on e-Albania.
How not to forget it
- As soon as you’ve had the inspection, write down the date of the next one straight away.
- Set a reminder a few weeks before, because free slots can run out.
- At the same time, check that your TPL insurance is valid up to the day of the inspection.
